WEEK 5
Fri. 2/2. Attendance: 23/24 (Football Practice: Aidin Amir). Discussed Exercise , BlogA, page . Half way through class, a group of prefects came to conduct spot check on all MacBooks – apparently one student lost her MacBook during lunch. Discussion resumed after that. Students were reminded not to get too excited until they ended up making too much noise. Based on my personal observation, after having taught them for 5 weeks, I found this group of 1 Cempaka very enthusiastic and eager learners, responsive and resourceful, would always volunteer to answer questions posed during class discussions – in short, it’s a joy to teach them. However, they have one very big flaw – they are “chatter boxes”!. Once teacher stops teaching or explaining, they need constat reminder not to get too excited and make too much noise. Today, I reshuffled seating positions of 2 groups (members: Eu Zai Sheng, Robin Lee, Teoh Jun Vinh, Daniel Lim, Amanda Khoo, Andrea Chan, Cheah Si Mynn, Chin Siew May & Mithrra Kuladeva). They got the message – condition improved after that. We’ll see if I have to do the same to the rest.
WEEK 3 (15/1/07 -19/1/07) (Last Updated: 15/1/07)
TOPICS TO BE COVERED
Chapter 1
1.2 Science laboratory
Experiments: Measuring tools – measuring volume of regular and irregular objects
1.3 Scientific Investigation
PEKA Activity 2, Practical Book, Pg. 99
Homework for the week
1. Complete procedures and discussion sections of all experiments done (Practical Book).
2. Complete the concept map on Physical Quantities given in class (Due: 18/1)
(F1 Cempaka)
Fri. (12/1/07)
Attendance:
Wed. (17/1/07)
Attendance:
Tues. (16/1/07)
Attendance:23/24 (Absent: Sabrina Ahmad Azhar). Did 2 experiments: using burette and measuring cylinder to measure volume and measuring volume of irregular solids. Discussion was done in class – as usual class was very active in volunteering to answer. Well done! Some students took photo of their burette set up (Siew May and company). Hope they will post it on the blog. Proceeded to do concept map on Physical Quantities, which is to be completed as homework.
WEEK 2 (8/1/07 -12/1/07) (Last Updated: 12/1/07)
TOPICS TO BE COVERED
Chapter 1
1.2 Science laboratory
Experiments: Bunsen Burner & measuring tools
1.3 Scientific Investigation
PEKA Activity 2, Practical Book, Pg. 99
Homework for the week
1. Create a table of Hazard Symbols detailing the meaning of each symbols and example of substances.
2. Complete procedures and discussion sections of all experiments done (Practical Book).
(F1 Cempaka)
Tues. (9/1/07)
Attendance:24/24. Gave out Science files for keeping notes & hand-outs. Introduced laboratory apparatus. Discussed Hazard Symbols.
Wed. (10/1/07)
Attendance: 23/24 (Absent: Vilsasha). Did experiments-using external and internal calipers and practice lighting up the Bunsen Burner. Had a lot of fun!!! Students took photos of the flames using their MacBook cameras. Photos posted on comment for the week.
Fri. (12/1/07)
Attendance: 22/24 (Absent: Meenakshi and Eu Zai Sheng). Sadly, photos posted on Wed/Thur could not be viewed. Will get expert advice to rectify the problem. Mrs. Malar joined in to observe how science is taught to F 1 Cempaka. Started by logging in to view and learn from new sites posted on Form 1 Science blog (on Hazard Symbol). Continued discussion on Bunsen Burner. Proceeded to experiment to measure regular and irregular shapes. Did not get to do PEKA Practical – time constraint and wrong judgement.
WEEK 1 (3/1/07 -5/1/07)
Topics to be covered
Chapter 1: Introduction to Science
1.1 What is Science
1.2 A Science Laboratory
Homework for the week
Conduct a web search for:
i. areas of study/field of study in science,
ii. science-based careers,
and make one hard copy of each best site.
First Day of School (Wed: 3/1)
Science Class for Form 1 Cempaka starts today – in the middle of the week (after the Aidil Adha and New Year holiday).
Class was very active and lively – many participated in class discussions. To name a few: Joanna, Jun Vinh, Syarifah Aminah, Marlena, Kanendra, Meenakshi.
Attendance: 23/24. (Absent: Leong Jin Ean)
Friday (5/1)
1 Cempaka. Attendance: 24/24. Connection was quite satisfactory. Students were introduced to Science Form 1 blog today. They posted comments straight away!! Made use of it as a form of e-mailing.
Did not get to discuss Science Lab. – time constraint. Some did not get to print the hard copy of the homework sites.
Homework for weekend: Ex.1,1, Textbook, Page 4.
